deleted WindowsXP components

In trying to get rid of spyware, I accidentally deleted the I.E. dialer in
the"dialers" file located in the "program files" folder as well as two
unidentified files in the "downloaded programs" file located in the "Windows"
folder. Now I can only access the web by first launching Outlook express.
Sounds like it was a silly thing to do, hey?

I know, I can already hear you [ ...get an anti-spyware program!!!]

Well, I have one, from Zone Labs. Trouble is, the blessed thing only does
half the job. Even my Norton anti-virus identifies spyware files that Zone
Labs misses. Unfortunately, Norton does not kill them, it just points them
out -- not its job after all.

WindowsXP came pre-installed on my craputer, I don't have a disc to restore
the files. Can anyone suggest a restoration procedure for the deleted files
using the Microsoft Update website, please?

My WinXP does not have a dialer folder in Program Files, so I'm not sure
what you're asking about.

Are you talking about "dialer" under Start Menu>Connect To" or "Show all
connections"?

If you deleted that "dailer", shouldn't be able to connect using OE, unless
maybe you have more than one "dialer" in this folder.

If another "dialer" exists, change "Connection" in IE
IE>Tools bar>internet options>connections

Same as in microsoft.public.windowsxp.configuration_manage

Anything in %windir%\Downloaded Program Files can be re-downloaded when
needed.

This folder?

Thanks Frank, Dixonian, and Wesley,

I removed Zone-Labs' ZoneAlarm anti-spyware and everything returned to
normal including the deleted I.E. dialer. I did nothing else. Let it be a
lesson to all.

Symantec, here I come.

Oh my, not Symantec. ;-(

Download, install, run, update and run again; one or all. They are all
good, FREE utilities. Make sure you update every program, even if you
just downloaded it. You must have the latest updates. Without updates,
you have a gun without ammo. You also need to use more than one
anti scumware program. One program will *not* catch everything.

2) SpywareBlaster
