How do you clean up the references in the Startup menu
that you have deleted elsewhere. For instance:
slmss
mwsvm
Keyhost
fash
sysupd
ViewMgr
AdDestroyer
Do you have to edit the registry or is there some nifty
tool that you can run to clean the references up?

Thanks for information.

Creating a manual restore point is advised as your going to edit the
registry.

Navigate to this key:

hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupfolder

and

hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg

Expand the key to see its sub folders, and then delete the ones you don't
need. (you can export them before delete to be safe if you want).

Susan,

Run the MSCONFIG utility and switch to Startup tab. Disable those entries. Then, run this script which clears ALL the disabled items from the Startup tab.

Run a scan using Ad-Aware (if you've not done already)

Susan,
RegCleaner, the free version of jv16 Powertools is still available from
www.all-freeware.com . It will allow you to remove any unwanted entries from
your startup list as well as many other handy functions. It keeps backups of
the entries you remove in case you make a mistake.

John
