Clean-up Startup Entry?

S

Susan

I have clean hijackthis, virus scan, Adaware, SpyBot,
CWSshredder, Search & Destroy logs. Only thing left is
that in Startup under MSCONFIG there is AdDestroyer
although it is unchecked. Command is C:\Progra~1\Addestr~1
\ etc. Location is Startup. The only thing is that I find
is C:\Windows\pss\AdDestroyer.InkStartup

What should I do to clean this up?

Thanks for information.

Ink extension is a shortcut link file, if you have all
those other anti spyware programs, maybe uninstall this
one. You seem to have plenty of protection

That is the backup created by msconfig when you removed the check.
Delete addestroyer.lnkstartup and restart msconfig. The entry should be
gone.

There is file AdDestroyer.lnkStartup in C:\Windows\pss along with
boot.ini.backup, system.ini.backup, and win.ini.backup. Can I just delete it
(AdDestroyer.lnkStartup) without consequences?

Is there any information somewhere about the directories and folders that
one would normally expect to see in Windows?

Thanks again for information!

Yes, you can delete just that without consequence. The other files are
other backups created by msconfig.exe.

Do you mean that would exist after a clean install or that exist and get
created through normal use? Either way I'm not sure you'll find a
comprehensive list. The files in the pss folder get added when you
change your startup items using msconfig.exe. There are also backup
locations in the registry for when you modify registry keys using msconfig.

Thanks! I got it cleaned up. For the Startup entry, I had
to change the Selective Startup to Normal and reboot to
get rid of the reference to the Startup entry, after I
had deleted the file.
