I have two Hard disks C:\ 200GB and D:\ 80 GB in my Desktop. It is custom
build a550y model from HP. I have 2 GB of RAM. The 200GB HD I added few
months before.

I have noticed, when I go to My Computer-> Explore, it takes long time to
show the files under C:\ or D:\. Same thing for opening any directoty.

I regularly do 1) Disk clean up and 2) Disk Defragmentation. 3) msconfig ->
Startup (remove junk ) 4) run AVG Pro, Ad Aware, SpyBot

Why the system is slowing down and how can I make it faster?

Maybe drive errors have caused the IDE controller to revert to PIO mode.
Look in Device manager for the IDE controller and see what the Primary
channel is running at. If set to DMA, but running PIO, remove/uninstall
it and then scan for new hardware to reinstall as DMA.

What Bob said. And then check out what's loading at startup. You may
have a lot of things starting that you no longer need or even have the
programs for. There are analyzers that will analyze the boot process if
you want to search for them. I haven't used them in a long time and no
longer remember their names or where they were from; sorry.
