Delete Startup Item

How do I delete an item from the startup list? When I uncheck it, I get a
warning message and a forced entry to msconfig at startup. I know I can
turn that off, but this is an item (Quicken Billminder) that I really don't
need and I'd rather eliminate it entirely and have a normal startup.

Thanks for your help.

I would first look at your options/preferences/setup in Quicken to see if this
option can be deselected. This would remove it as a startup item.

Otherwise, you can either edit the Registry to remove it or better yet, install
a freeware utility that will remove it for you. The problem is, in both cases,
Quicken may reinstall it.

Here's a freeware utility that you may want to consider using in addition to
msconfig. It, unlike msconfig, can also delete those orphaned or malware type
entries.

Go into the Quicken program and turn the feature off, OR locate the
'startup' folder in the start menu.. drive c - Documents and Settings - all
users (or maybe a folder with your name) - start menu - programs - startup..
delete the billminder shortcut..

MSCONFIG should only be used for diagnostic purposes..

Good luck

I had already deselected it in Quicken, with no effect on Startup. But the
Startup Utility you suggested did the trick Thanks a lot.

I had already deselected it in Quicken, with no effect on Startup. It
doesn't appear in the programs - startup list, but only in the msconfig
startup tab. The utility that Eric McG recommended deleted it. Thanks.

If you had it disabled in msconfig and then deselected it in Quicken, maybe
that's why Quicken couldn't remove it. But I'm glad you got it worked out using
StartupCPL.

Thanks for the feedback!

BTW, you shouldn't use your real e-mail address in any of these newsgroups.
There are too many spammer bots collecting them.

Best really is to look for any option in the program itself: Most have
something like 'Run whatever when windows starts'

Other than that, In the Msconfig startup page look for the line and the
place where it is said to be, on the right (Have it enabled and Apply).
That may be
Common Startup
Startup
For those Take Start - All Programs, look for it in the Startup
sub-menu, highlight and delete.

For HKLM or HKCU look with regedit.exe for a line for it at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
respectively and delete the line
