Delete Block? No (Yes) message in the status bar. How to get rid?

When I select a block of text and hit the delete key, I get the message above
displayed in the status bar. Then I have to hit either N or Y to delete. I
did not get this before. It has started recently. Previously the delete key
deleted the block first time. How do I get rid of the message and get a
straightforward delete action.
