I am trying to delete an image in the background of a previously created
slideshow (the old company logo). I don't want to replace it I just want to
delete it. I've done the Ctrl-A function and it doesn’t highlight so I'm not
sure if it’s an actual picture or its embedded

It may be on the Master slide. Click on View | Master | Slide Master and see
if you can edit it there.

Yes, that's where I was trying to do it. Sorry for not stating that upfront.

It may be part of a larger image that makes up the background, in which case
you'd have to edit the image or delete it and choose a new image.

If you can select the entire image that includes the logo, that might be the
case. But before deleting, try ungrouping it (rightclick, choose Group ...
Ungroup from the popup menu).

If you can't seem to get it it that way, try Format, Background and assign a flat
color as the fill, or at least check to see whether the B/G is a picture (that
includes the logo)
