"Delayed Write Failed" error

K

Kevin

Last night I removed and attempted reloading various
Allen Bradley PLC programming software onto my Dell
Laptop running Windows XP Pro. While in the middle of one
of the loads I again started receiving the following
error message

[ {Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all
the data for the file . The data has been lost. This
error may be caused by a failure of your computer
hardware or network connection. Please try to save this
file elsewhere. ]

I found under component services that the Windows
Installer had stopped. I restarted the installer and all
seemed well until I attempted to update my Norton System
Works software. This error stops various dll and other
files form loading. There is probably a really easy fix
for this, but I can not figure it out. All help would be
greatly appreciated.

Locate the icon for your hard drive in Device Manager. Right click the icon
for your hard drive and select properties. On the Policies tab, is there a
check next to "Enable write caching on the disk"? If no, click to add
enable. You may get a dire warning about this action. Dismiss the error (if
necessary, you can always go back and change it again). Test to see if the
delayed write problem has been resolved.
