Delayed Startup

I just got a new laptop with XP. After downloading a few programs such as Ad-aware, Spybot and Yahoo Messenger it now starts up in two steps. When the initial desktop comes on, it loads all the icons on the desktop along with loading the language bar, clock, battery mode and Yahoo messenger on the lower right hand corner. Then it waits another minute and 45 seconds before it plays the startup sound and loads all the network connections, Norton, and allows me to work on the computer. How can I get it to startup normally again?

I have a similar problem too check out these threads on this matter from this link below. Hopefully it will help but yet to have solved it myself

Think it has to do with a NORTON update of early Jan. Suggest you read the info in the the thread "NAV 2003 and Windows XP slow startup"
