delayed startup

for some reason my system started taking a long time to startup.

It goes to my desktop but several minutes pass before I can do anything and
the sound eventually comes on after that.

I've ran bootvis to speed up the start up but it doesn't appear to help.

It used to load up and I could hit the internet in less than a minute now it
takes close to 5 minutes.

Any ideas? I can't figure out what it is so busy doing on initial startup,
but obviously I've changed something somewhere.

Could java effect this?

I thought that too...I'm using NAV and sometimes it updates the def files,
but that's not it.

I'm thinking it's windows messenger. I just installed 5.0.

Mine did the same thing when I installed McAfee anti-virus. Takes about 4-5
mins to reboot now. Maybe your anti virus is causing the same problem. You
can check your startup items in your Start > Programs > Start up. Maybe
something in there is hogging up your time. Check msconfig also, Start > run
