Delayed Drop Down Menu when adding/saving attachments

This problem is on the bosses computer so I need a fix REAL FAST! Whenever
the boss tries to add an attachment to an email, he clicks on the arrow for
the drop-down menu to choose the proper folder and the program seems to hang
there (and the drop down menu doesn't come up) for an extended period of time
(1 minute or more?) and sometimes shifts to a "Not Responding" mode b/c the
delay is so extended.

The default folder that the attachment "Insert File" window opens up with is
the "My Document" folder and there is not much stored in there so it is not
an excess of processing/caching going on. I re-installed the most updated
version of Outlook 2003, downloaded all updates and service packs and this is
still happening. What is even weirder is that it really only happens the
first time he needs to complete an attachment - after that he can attach no
problem. He is getting frustrated and so I need help quick - any suggestions?
My techy husband keeps saying it is a file laden My Documents folder that is
causing the delay, but my boss doesn't keep his files under My Docs - he has
folders on his desktop, so I don;t believe this is the cause. Looking forward
to your replies!!!!
I have tried troubleshooting this for 3 hours with no luck - and couldn't
find a similar instance in the knowledgebase, so I really need some
constructive feedback...

This happens if there's problem with network drive right click my computer
and click disconnect network drive and check if your able to open the files
quickly, if yes then you may have to check with network guy.
