deframentation error messages

Dale Peterson

When I try and defrag my hard drive i receive the
following error message. "Defragmentation has been
aborted because of inconsistencies in the file system.
Please run chkdsk or scandisk to repair these
inconsistencies and than run defrag again."

Suggestions? Windows help says that check and scandisk
are not availbe under xp.

Thank you,

Hi

From a command prompt type 'chkdsk /?' - without the quotes - to the options available. Or - double click on My Computer - right click on the appropriate drive and then select Properties>tools>Error-Checking.
