defrag error: inconsistancies, error defraging

Every time I try to defrag my computer, I get this message
Defragmentation of C: has been aborted due to inconsistancies that were
detected in the file system. Please run CHKDSK and/or SCANDISK to repair
these onconsistancies, the try runnging defrag again"
Help! I've tried both but to no help, I'm not that computer savvy, and am
in need of a good (hopefully) simple answer that doesn't involve
re-formatting. please help

hi ,

use chkdsk to fix error on the disk

start -- run
then type cmd and press enter

then type the following

chkdsk /f
