Defrag runs only 1%

Xp SP 1. I have 94% free space. Tried running defrag but it
holds at 1%. Rebooted & tried again same thing.
Any ideas?

Run the 'CHKDSK' utility.. double click on MY COMPUTER.. right click the
drive in question.. select PROPERTIES - TOOLS.. run Error Checking.. when
this process has completed, try Defrag again..

Try to run some other software like PartitionMagic
http://www.powerquest.com/ for defragmentation!

In any case, the defragmentation will be also more faster than using
the windows default function!

Laptop here initially sits at 'Defragmenting 1%' for quite a long time
before it actually starts moving along. Have to have patience for nearly an
hour or so and it only has around 1.5gb to defrag.

Try useing Safe Mode.

Thanks for the help. Ran CHKDSK & it worked. Also when in doubt I
rebooted. That usually works. Also went on the web. I run WindowWasher.
It seems there is problem there since it cleans the cookies, history, &
temp
directory which adds to the defrag time......marvo

Whe in doubt a reboot will also solve some problems. Did
some checking also. I run Window Washer & that can also
cause timing problems. Thanks again......marvo
