Whenever I defrag my computer I get the following message:
Is this normal or is there something I can do to correct
this. Sincerely, Alyssa

Some files on this volume could not be defragmented. (see
below)
Fragments File Size Files that cannot be
defragmented
2 5 KB \WINDOWS\b2_t_SITE
3 165 KB \System Volume
Information\_restore{491AC9EE-6A0E-4186-B8E4-8DC6F7A4B6A5}
\RP178\A0054706.dll
3 189 KB \System Volume
Information\_restore{491AC9EE-6A0E-4186-B8E4-8DC6F7A4B6A5}
\RP178\A0055155.dll
5 556 KB \Program Files\Common
Files\Broderbund\Media\SOUNDS\Objects\PoliceRadio.wav
13 774 KB \WINDOWS\system32
\dllcache\comres.dll

Check that you have the comres.dll file in your windows\system32 folder (the
copy in the \dllcache folder is most likely an extra)
If yes . .
Delete all files on the list
If not
Delete all files except that one. Then restore a good copy of comers.dll to
the \system 32 folder then delete the one in cache

How large is your hard disk and how much free space? In Windows Explorer
right click on Local Disk C and select Properties to get the
information.

You will get files that do not defragment but I would normally not
expect System Restore to remain fragmented after running Disk
Defragmenter. The file sizes are small. This suggests that you may have
an overfull hard disk. To run Disk Defragmenter you should have 15% of
you hard disk as free space and preferably 20% to 25% free.

The comres.dll and policeradio.wav files are larger and these may remain
fragmented because of limited disk space.

Are you experiencing poor system performance? How much RAM memory do you
have?

Hope this helps.

The amount of space taken up by the listed files is about
..008% of a 20gig hard drive. What are you concerned about?
Generally speaking, unless you're experiencing performance
problems, defragging is not necessary.

What??? What is this supposed to accomplish? What's to be
gained?

there are differing schools of thought on what constitutes "necessary"
defragging.

Gerry,
I do have quite a bit of memory, I am at work and not sure
about my home PC, but I do know there is quite a bit and
that isn't a problem. However, I do have trouble when
running lavasoft (adaware) and it seems to freeze on one
of these files. Just thought that there may be some sort
of error with them. Let me know your thoughts.

The size of hard disk and amount of free space could be creating
problems. What is the answer to the my question "How large is your hard
disk and how much free space?"
