default presentation

While Playing with a downloadable presentation from a vendor, I
inadvertently ended up with their design as my default. They use a design
with four grids and whenever I apply a nw design, it is placed on their
layout
 
You don't mention the version of PPT.

You could try RIGHT clicking the design that you prefer in the design pane
or tab depending on version and choosing "set as default / use for all new"
again depending on version

Does that work?
