default file search launch

When I double click any of the folders in the "my computer" window a file
search window is opened rather than the folder on which I am clicking. To
open the folder I must rightlick and select open (it is clear from the window
that opens on right clicking that search is the default). Interestingly this
does not happen when I am trying to open a folder fro any other window. This
is highly annoying! Any one know how to fix this?
