default email address/account ignored in Outlook 2007

I have just a few email addresses/accounts within Outlook 2007, with one set
as the default account when composing or replying. However, it often happens
that mail is sent or replied from another account, i.e. the default account
setting is ignored, even though the default setting never deviates from its
original account. Other than deleting my other accounts, which would be
inconvenient, or manually checking each and every outgoing email message, is
there a fix to this?

Outlook replies to messages received by default using the account in which
the message was received.

Not in this case. I had suspected that that might have been the case, but
Outlook 2007 is merrily choosing whichever email address it wants when
replying, and ignores the default. There is no correlation with the address
that the sender uses to send to me. Two of the email addresses are aliases
to a single account, and that may be why Outlook is getting confused, but
this is a serious deficiency in the program since many people have a single
email account, to which they have multiple addresses, e.g.: one for business,
one for personal, etc.

Anyone other suggestions?

Well I have three email accounts set up in Outlook 2007, all proper separate
email addresses (ie NOT aliases) and it behaves exactly as it should - ie it
sends replies using the account to which the original mail was sent to...A
new email uses my default account, and forward uses the account to which the
message was sent. I suggest you have a serious look as to what is ACTUALLY
happening, record the instances and post back with details.

Congratulations on getting Outlook 2007 to behave itself; I haven't enjoyed
the same luck. I checked and found that messages are addressed to one alias
address, yet reponded with another. This is consistent with what it says in
the message headers of the incoming message. All I can speculate is that
either alias is downloading the messages from the same server mailbox, and
that Outlook 2007 is actually ignoring the alias' email address when
replying. Surely, when I have a specific email address as the default
address, and Outlook 2007 is choosing another, the problem isn't the user.

The problem would seem to be the aliases....

The problem of Outlook choosing another email address didn't exist prior to
Outlook 2007 and that was using these identical email accounts, including
aliases. The problem is Outlook 2007. In support of that, I see that some
others are reporting the same random email address behaviour when replying to
email.

(P.S.: does Microsoft monitor these discussions in order to fix reported
software problems?)
