Declining a Single Update

Hello all,

Windows automatic update has been working very well. Recently I had an
update for my ATI graphics card. When I updated this, the multimedia program
did not work properly. I was in contact with ATI. I had to uninstall
everything and then reinstall all of the software and drivers. Fresh start,
all works, but now I have that ATI automatic update waiting to be downloaded.
I don't want it. How can I pass on this update and continue getting the
others I need? Thanks for the help.

How to remove Automatic Updates icon in system tray:
Control Panel/Security Center/Change the way Security Center Alerts Me

What I do is to turn off 'Automatic Updates',
Then I manually update Windows by going the URL listed below (Windows
Update)
Then choosing the 'Custom' option and then unchecking those updates I do not
want.

Are all th "driver" update part of the "optional" settings in Windows
Update? Should they be excluded from auto-updates?

NEVER download HW drivers from MS! ALWAYS download them ONLY from the
manufacturer's web site, and then ONLY when you have a known problem!
Perhaps the biggest cause of a wounded or killed system is to update a
video driver "automagically".

Now, to your question, simply uncheck that update then when Windows
asks "don't remind me again", CHECK that one. Voila! No more reminders.
Good luck in getting all the little problems resolved.

Click Start >> Control panel >> Windows Security Center >> D Click on the
Automatic Updates Applet and check this Radio Button:
(*) Notify me but don't automatically download or install them.
Click [Apply] then [OK] and when the shield appear or you can Go direct to
the Windows Updates site, select the Custom updates instead of the Express
one.
The progress bar will appear and then you will be offered the Updates
waiting to be downloaded and installed. Uncheck the software mentioned and
any other updates you think you don't need, also expand the Plus [+] to [-]
and check the option for Never show or offer this update again, say for ex...;
[-] ATI latest driver
ATI version..blah..blah and what it do and enhance your experience...
[ ] Never show this Update again <= check mark this and it will not be
offered to you. However it will be available on the hardware options list if
you want to install it in the future.
Hope this Help.
