Dead CPU?

J

jaster

System died.

Tried to boot with only cpu, fans, memory and video card. CPU/
motherboard doesn't boot, that is no boot splash, no beeps with or
without memory or video.

Cpu fan works, CDROM opens and closes, video card definitely and memory
work I checked by swapping components, brand new power supply, cmos
battery still good (also checked in another device).

Am I correct the cpu is dead?

The only way to tell is to try the cpu in another motherboard. I just went
through the same issue recently and it was a doa motherboard.......

Unplug everything, pop the battery out, clear CMOS, then try again
without only RAM installed. Any beep?

Most likely the MB. CPU's will stand up much longer and are better quality
controlled than motherboards.

Did you test the monitor? You don't say. Seems unlikely you didn't check it.
What about the PC speaker? Also a long shot.

Normally, that's what I'd tell someone else in my position but doctors
make the worse patients. In either case it's a new component. Thanks
for the insight, makes a sense regarding the lack of beeps.

Monitor works but going to try booting the board again with after a CMOS
reset and no components.

CPU's almost NEVER fail unless they are really overclocked. Most likely the
motherboard has failed. They routinely fail.
