dead cpu

Motherboard: M2N-E
CPU: AMD X2 3800+

I was trying to overclock the CPU. Setting multiplier to x9 and voltage
to 1.4V, FSB to 230Mhz.Then it happened.

The motherboard powered on for 2 seconds then the CPU fan powered off
itself. If I removed the CPU and hit the power button, the CPU fan would
be on continuously. I had cleared the CMOS.

Is it a dead CPU?

More likely you fried the BIOS chip or at least mucked its programming.
That's the problem with programmable BIOS chips ... if things *really*
go wrong, a runaway program accessing one can instead muck up it's
programming.

The only solution is to get a new chip from either the manufacturer
(almost impossible these days ... easier to buy a whole new motherboard)
or one of the companies that supplies reprogrammed chips for
motherboards.

Can't remember the name of any offhand; but they're out there.
A Google search should find at least one.

Hi do this if your computer does not work properly that means you have
to get a new CPU
1. Open your computer
2. Put on a cluff
3. Unplug the power cable and IDE cable and any other cable blocking
the reach to the CPU
4. Remove the CPU, if the CPU is a pin CPU check if the there are any
damaged Pins. If there is non then use a brush to dust the pins. Do
not touch the pins with your bear hands. If you do you have
automatically distroyed the CPU.
5. Then insert the CPU back and all the cables you have removed.
6. Check once more to see you have fit in the cables.
7. Put on your computer. If your computers Monitor did not display
then it means your CPU is dead.
8. Purchase another on that machies your motherbord. if recommend
purchasing from any of those sites

Make sure there is a warranty on the CPU before you pay for it.

I hope i have been of great help to you.

I swapped in a new CPU as well as another power supply, same problem. So
it's the board or as you predicted, a fried BIOS.

I bought and inserted a brand new Sempron. Same problem. It's the board
and more likely the BIOS chip ...

Like I said, there are companies that supply reprogrammed BIOS chips for

I am taking the board to the distributor's service center. Hopefully
they would do a quick repair. I have never heard of Hong Kong shops
selling replacement BIOS for various motherboards.
