This DDE Server Message started appearing after I installed SP2 and Office
2003. In my testing the DDE message shows up after reading a web site PDF
file in IE which starts Acrord32.exe (Adobe Acrobat 6). I "solved" the
message issue by moving all the Acrobat Reader 6 Plugins to the Optional
folder so it only loads plugins as they are needed. So one of the preloading
plugins was causing the message. This "fix" stopped the DDE server window
message on shutdown and as a side benefit Acrobat loads much faster.
Unfortunately there is still a problem. Now that I've fixed that message a
VB program that I wrote now won't close on shutdown and and presents the end
now message. I believe the root cause is related to the SP2 code somehow but
I haven't had time to do the research.
