DDE Server Not Responding

Added this to a July thread, but thought it better to add it as a new thread.
Recently, I've started getting a series of messages on shutdown that all say
"DDE Server Window is not Responding" It takes about a dozen of the "end
now" clicks to get the computer to shut down. Any fixes for this?

DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) is used by (not many) applications to
exchange data or collaborate over networks. You probably dont need DDE
running on your computer, very few applications use it. Go to the
Services Management Console and set these 2 services to "Manual" start
or disable them altogether and see what happens:

Network DDE Service
Network DDE DSDM Service

Finally found them. They were both disabled. Shutdown requires 6-16 "end
now" responses to DDE server window not responding. I wonder if setting them
to automatic would reverse the problem.

You know how to change them back if it changes nothing. But before you
try that MAKE SURE that you have no virus or spyware running on the
machine, starting these services might just be what a rogue application
needs to do its dirty deeds! Do a full and up to date virus and spyware
scan! I can't think of anything else to suggest, if I find anything
I'll post back.

Addendum: Look in the Event Log for errors. I don't think that you
should enable the service mentioned earlier, these may present an
unnecessary security risk, these service are usually not needed.
