I've got a large.dbx file of a OE6 folder from another computer sitting on
my desktop. How do I get Windows Mail to accept the file and make the
messages useable.

Thanks

Fred

Just one? There should have been a .dbx for each folder.

Copy all of the Outlook express .dbx files (including folders.dbx) from the
XP computer to a temporary folder on the Vista computer.

Open Windows Mail, File - Import - Messages - Microsoft Outlook Express 6
Import from OE6 store directory
Find the temporary folder where you copied the .dbx files (BUT DON'T OPEN
IT).
Next.... etc.

If you want to import your contacts, copy the .wab file over, and do a
similar File - Import
of the Windows Contacts.

You actually need the container folders and importatnly the folders.dbx
file, which contains the keys that will allow WM to recognise and import
your large DBX file. Move all of that to a read/write location (ie not a
CD) on the target system and tell the import function where to look.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem. I don't have the folders.dbx file, I've got my
inbox.dbx and my contacts.dbx that I want to import into windows mail. How do
I do this and why is this so difficult?

See http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#oe2wm.

If you only have the INBOX.DBX file, you won't be able to import it at all.
See the suggestions on the above page for some workarounds.

PS: Are you sure you have a CONTACTS.DBX file? If you do, it does not
contain your WinXP Address Book contacts. (Such a file would be a CSV file
or a WAB file.)

yes its contacts.dbx

CONTACTS.DBX would point to a user-created Local folder in OE. There's no
way it contains your Address Book contacts, Evan. In any event, you'd
migrate (not import) the contents of both DBX files the same way (i.e.,
using one of the workarounds cited in that link).
yes its contacts.dbx
