datarecovery after boot disk error

For no apparent reason my HD crashed a few days ago.
Starting it up from the XP CD didn't work, so I mounted it
in a friend's PC which also runs XP. After running chkdsk
etc we saw the Hard Disk, and we could access some of the
folders, but the "My Documents" folder gave an "Access
Denied" error. My guess is that this has something to do
with the admin rights of my friend's XP over my Hard
Disk. Does anyone know of a bypass or workaround that
would enable us to recover/access the files in this
folder? Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Joeri

Use the CACLS command line tool to change permissions for 'My
Documents' to gain access again.
