Data in Thumbs.db lost when copying pictures

B

Bob S

When I copy the "My Pictures" directory or any of its subdirectories to
another location, I get the following message.

The file "Thumbs.db" has extra information attached to it that might be lost
if you continue copying. The contents of the file will not be affected.
Information that might be lost includes:
:encryptable:$DATA
Do you want to proceed anyway?

My questions are:
1. Am I losing any data?
2. Is there a setting I can change to avoid getting this message?

Thank you for your help.

You are not losing anything, The tuumbs.db is used in the
thumbs folder view. It will be rebuilt next toime you
click on the folder.

This happens if you are copying from an NTFS file system (which has
extra 'metadata' about Thumbs.db) to a system that does not have NTFS,
like a CD or via a means like a Network, that has no way to pass that
data along. The file is anyway only a cache for the thumbnails seen in
a thumbnail view, and you can perfectly well do without it. If someone
starts a thumbnail view of the copy a new .db file will be made
