A while ago, I decided it was time to reinstall Windows XP. I have more than
one hard drive in my computer so naturally I just copied over my crucial
files from the system drive to the other drive. I turned off my computer and
unplugged the power and IDE cable from the backup drive to avoid any unwanted
accidents. I then proceeded to reformat and install Windows. After
completing the installation, I shutdown my computer and plugged in the backup
drive. After restarting, the CHKDSK program loaded after the boot screen
stating that drive D needed to be checked for errors. I let Windows perform
the CHKDSK which took several hours and found countless corrupt files. After
it was completed and I booted into Windows, I checked drive D to find that
almost all of the files were corrupt or missing. I managed to recover most
of them with a third party software but still lost some important files.
I can't understand why the data was corrupt. I verified it before
reinstalling Windows and it was fine.
The reason I am posting this is because I am about to perform another
reinstallation of Windows and I don't want this problem to occur again.
Thanks,
Ryan
