Error Message:
"(DriveLetter):\ is not accessible. The wrong diskette is in the
drive. Insert (Volume Serial Number) into drive (DriveLetter):\"

In January I bought a copy of XP-Pro SP2 and installed it on my
Computer that had been running Win2000 for the past 2 years.
For the next 2 months, I received the above error on 5 different HDs
along with general HD data corruption problems.
I searched the web and found that while not extremely common, this
problem does seem to happen too often. I tried everything that
was suggested plus all of the usual common sense stuff and nothing
really solved the problem. And as far as I know, MS never addressed
the problem. The only thing that could be done was to kiss your data
goodbye and reformat. All of the drives reformatted and worked except
for a Toshiba 180GB. It took over 24 hrs to format and will crash my
computer when I try to copy large files to it. I returned to
Win2000 in early March and have had no further problems.

I am now updating my development tools to VS 2005, SQL 2005 etc. I
would really like to run them on XP-Pro. But before I try it again,
can anyone update me on the status of this problem. From what I have
seen on the web currently, nothing has really changed. People
are still getting their HD's trashed ever so often and I am seeing the
same suggestions on dealing with it being recycled.

Any information or help on this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like an issue with your motherboard and OEM drivers aren't XP SP2
compatible.
