Customizing desktop

A

Am stumped on this one. On my main computer running XP
Home, I have the text below each of the desktop icons set
so the letters appear to float above the wallpaper with a
slight shadow underneath. I want to replicate this same
effect on my laptop (also XP Home) but cannot discover how
I accomplished this on my desktop machine in the first
place. It's set on the laptop so that the desktop color
creates a box around the text. I'd like to get rid of this
box so that I have the same effect. I know, it's a small
issue in the grand scheme of things and I need to get a
life, but it's been bugging me. Anyone? TIA

Hi Ainadude
Right click on the desktop Select Properties, go to the Appearance Tab click
on Effects.. Select Show shadows under menus. Click OK, Click OK

Hope this Helps

Right click on the desktop, choose the "Appearance" tab,
click on the effects button, in the second pull-down box
(use the following method to smooth edges of screen
fonts) select "clear type", press ok then apply, press
ok, and all should be as you expect it.
