The Favicons are stored in the Temp files, and clearing the cache can often
disrupt the ability to keep those Favicons. The icons revert to the standard
blue IE icon. As for the crash of the PC and the loss of the Icons, it may
be that the information is not saved and they are lost.
Anyway, there are two programs that I know of to keep and store Favicons.
Favorg1.4 and Faviconizer.
Faviconizer (I have never tried it)
http://www.codeproject.com/tools/faviconizer.asp
I think Favorg ver 1.4 is now only available through PC magazines
subscription of 19.95 per year for access to the ~ 300 utilities they offer
(still a good deal IMO)
An old site I know of still has a free version of Favorg 1.4 (the
most current)
http://www.gratilog.net/internet2.htm
I now longer use Favorg, although I once did, preferring the following
method, which is more foolproof, faster, and stable.
When I see a Favicon, I search for it in the Content.IE5 folder, and *COPY*
it to an icons folder I've created solely for this purpose, rename it
whateverIlike.ico, and store it there for use as I need it. Then R-Click the
shortcut> properties>change icon>browse to folder>select icon>OK>apply>OK
out.
## NOTE: DO NOT CUT THE ICON from the respective TIF folder**. Only *Copy*
it from that location.##
