Custom Animation-Sounds

"On the Slide Show menu, click Custom Animation, and then click the Multimedia Settings tab." For some reason the Multimedia Tab is grayed out, and I am unable to select anything? All I want to do is have a wav file (music) to play continuously throughout the slide show. I am using 2000 and my operating system is 2000 as well.

See where it says, "Check to animate slide objects:"? Highlight your object and
the Multimedia setting options will become un-grayed. Or, on your slide, select
the sound icon and go to Custom Animation.

Ok I tried that and still tab is grayed?
