Hi Everyone.
First time here so please be gentle.
Im trying to buil a slide show with background music. I have been able to
put the slide show together and even insert music where I want it but no
matter what I do the music will not play.
The tracks are MP3 (have also tried .wav) they play ok on Windows Media
Player and insert into the slide show ok, they even show up as playing in the
custom animation box, but no sound plays.
Hope you can help, sorry not too computer literate so appreciate it if you
can keep it fairl;y basic
Thanks in advance

Hi Tyke

It could be a file path length issue - try moving your presentation and the
sound file to a folder directly on your C drive (e.g. C:\presentation) the
reinsert the sound. Does it work now?

When you insert the audio into the PowerPoint and the audio is just in
your computer not in the PowerPoint that is why it said, "Windows
cannot play..." Always put the music audio in the same folder as your
PowerPoint presentation on your computer.

On the other hand, you can convert the PowerPoint presentation to
video using
PPT to Video Converter:
http://www.ppt-to-dvd.com/ppt-to-video-overview.html#149
No sound or any other effect gets lost with both converters.

Hello folks
Firstly many thanks for taking the time to try and help out, I have tried
all the suggestions offered but I am no further forward.
To re-cap what i have now done.
I have built my slide show (I have removed all titles and transations in
case this was causing a problem)
I have opened a new folder in My Ductuments and saved the presentation to
it. I have moved my MP3 track to the same folder.
Then following Bajaj's excellent link I have step by step loaded my music
and everyhting appears to work fine in that the sound icon shows on the
screen and I am able to carry out of the required steps. Only problem is that
the sound still refuses to play.
I have noticed one thing which may be relevant. On the powerpoint set up
pages when i click to insert sound, although the soundtab does pop up and I
can make adjustments in the options section, it does not illuminate red like
the picture tab does, even when clicked, could it be it isnt working?
One last point , and thanks for your patience, i am using a trial version of
Office but I would be surprised if any things are restricted as everything
across the office range works perfectly.
Would greatly appreciate any suggestions you ahve to solve this problem
before I rip my hair out.

I have no answer for you. But, whatever the problem is, it is NOT because
it's a " trial " version. I am using a trial version right now, and I have
made dozens of pps with embedded music. They all worked, as confirmed by my
recipients.

Hi Tyke

It could still be a path length issue - your My Documents folder is actually
C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\My Documents so if you then add on
a folder name and the song title is long you can easily exceed the (off the
top of my head) 128 character limit. If you don't want to add a folder
directly to C, try making the folder name short and perhaps renaming the
song.

Don't worry about the sound tab not being red - mine isn't either :)

If the file still doesn't play, it may be worth checking to see of the file
plays in the MCI player (this is what PowerPoint uses, not media player -
well that's true of video and I'm pretty sure of sound files too):
http://playsforcertain.com/tutorial.htm

Wait a minute. Did you download the mp3 from iTunes? If so, it may have DRM
and then PowerPoint definitely won't play it.

Hope that all makes sense - I've not had my coffee yet :)
