cursor doesn't appear in text entry field

I have 2 computers on my home network and both have begun to experience the
same problem. In the past, when I opened the Internet Explorer the cursor
(in the form of a vertical line) would be located in the text entry field
waiting for me to type. Also, if I went to a web site sign-in page to
retrieve my email the cursor would be located in the text entry field (where
I want it to be). Currently, there is a problem. The cursor longer
automatically appears in the text entry field. I can move my mouse and place
the cursor in the text entry field but that's a pain. While I don't know if
it's related, I recently installed SP2. I don't know if it's related because
SP2 was installed on one computer almost 4 weeks ago and on the other only a
few days ago. This problem on both computers only began a few days ago. Any
suggestions? Thanks.

i think this is called, cursor "focus".

Thanks for your response. I think you are correct about it being called a
cursor 'focus' problem. I have been reading about it here. Unlike some
'focus' problems reported here, my web page banner does not get mutted. That
is, it does not appear that my web page is being supplanted by another.

It occured to me after making my post that just one day before all this
began to happen on both of my computers I installed a Windows Update.
Specifically it was the XP Hotfis KB887742 and I am thinking of doing an
uninstall to see if the problem goes away.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

Hi...
Ya know, I'm not a 'Puter savvy person but here's a suggestion:

In your Mouse settings, under pointer options, check the "snap to" box.
