Any other sites?
Funny, I got that on the first link, that's why I pointed to the next one ... try the third link. :D

They are all good links, just mirrors for the original ... Try V_R's link. :thumb:

Now have SpeedFan downloaded from V_R's link. It's telling me the temp is 43 and the CPU usage is varying from 18 to 100 percent. Is that OK?

The crunching appears to be progressing and the first task is up to 99.7% - birth is just about imminent.

The usage is still bouncing around all over the place -12.5 to100%.
Is this a problem?

Sorry V_R, you will have to remind me where to find Task Manager - my brain has gone to sleep.

Task Manager seems to be saying exactly the same thing - usage is varying all the time. Settings on BOINC say not more than 60% of CPU.

Everything seems to be running OK.Did you want me to send you some details of the Task Manager Programme - is that possible?

Got to go now. Will get back to this later.

Thanks for all the help. :thumb:

Niv, If your happy to bump up the processor usage to 100% then give it a got, just keep an eye on the temps until your happy. :)

:thumb:I've edged it up to 70% and will watch what happens. Were you expecting the CPU usage to remain at 100% as I edge things upwards? It is tracing out an almost regular pattern - 100%,88% and then between 14 and 22% over every couple of seconds. It looks like an ECG pattern - maybe it's my heartbeat

Lol, well i have only ever ran mine at 100% so am not totally sure, but my usage is always a rock solid 100% no dips or anything even when i am gaming. I just assumed yours would be holding almost dead on 60/70% not dropping that low. But either way hold on and see how it goes. :)

It is "normal" for that to happen ... I have one does exactly the same. ;)

That's a relief :) Thanks for the reassurances AB and Mucks :thumb:
Do you think I should leave things as they are or should I move the CPU usage to a higher setting?

No need to overly stress an older CPU, best to keep it under 50c-ish.

The computer doing the crunching is only about one year old. Temp is remaining steady at 41 -42. I'm now happy with things. :thumb:

Crunching away merrily now :)

Downloaded Speedfan as suggested and temp seems to be fine. When I open Speedfan the temp appears in the system tray, bottom right but as soon as I close Speedfan the temp vanishes. Is there some way I can configure Speedfan so that the temp is permanently on display in the system tray? I've looked but cannot find a way to do it.

Am I missing something?
