Creative Soundblaster X-FI ExtremeMusic card

I tried to install this card and have failed so far. I have seated it in
different PCI slots. I've done a clean reboot several times. Disabled my
OnBoard audio (Got an ASUS A7A266 MB with ALiMaGiK chipset) and removed
Realtek audio drivers so that there would be no conflick. Yet I continue to
receive an "Error code 10. Unable to start device." when I install the latest
driver. What is going on???? Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?? I'm
at my wits end!!!!

And what does the Creative Labs / Soundblaster forums suggest?

Logical alternatives:
1. Software viz. wrong driver for your SB card in your OS.
2. Hardware viz. all your PCI slots are defective.
3. Hardware viz. the SB card is defective.
You can test for ## 2 and 3 (e.g. try this SB card in a
different PC, try other cards in your PCI slots etc.)
If the SB card seems defective, exchange it with the vendor.

Creative forums suggest doing what I've already done. Namely,
Removing current SB drivers
Remove all Creative software in the "Add/Remove Programs"
Deleting C:/Program Files/Creative folder
Cleaning registry (CCleaner)
Checking registry to make sure all entries of Creative deleted
Reboot to complete cleanout

Yesterday I tried for the third day in a row to get it to work and this time
as I was re-installing the XFI Drivers my system spontaneously rebooted!!!
After it came back up it rebooted again, like it was in some perpetual loop.
So I turned off my computer and took the card out. It seems like this card
just don't like my computer.

Yes I'm sure it's XFI Xtreme Music. I got it specifically because I wanted to
buy the extrernal interface too. Last night I tried again to install drivers
after cleaning everything up real good in my registry, and I got into this
weird perpetual, automatic reboot thing. I had to turn the computer off and I
just yanked the card out. I'd rather not do any damage to my system which
works great without this card.

I know that the drivers I'm trying to use are the "correct" drivers, at least
according to Creative. My PCI slots are working, for in fact other cards work
fine. My computer "sees" the XFI card when its in, it just can't seem to get
it all fired up to work properly. I'm starting to think that it is defective
in some way. Last night after loading the drivers and doing an hour of
cleaning the registry (I had nothing better to do with my time!!!!) my
comuter gets into this perpetual rebooting loop. I had to literally turn my
computer off and take the card out. Thought it might harm something else if
it stayed in!!!!
