Creating high quality DVDs from PS3

My objective is to create a high quality (not talking about HD yet!) DVD
based on a Photo Story 3 project. I have tried so many different
combinations to get good results. The best I have achieved is using the
following steps:
- Customized the NTSC DVD profile to create 720x480 and set VBR quality to
100
- Used Movie Maker 2 to save the WMV file to AVI
- TMPGEnc to convert AVI to MPEG2 by using DVD (NTSC).mcf template
- Nerovision to add titles and burn the DVD

A couple of problems I noticed with this approach:
- Images are not as sharp as the computer (yes - I know about the lower
resolution on TV. How do DVD movies have good resolution on the same TV?)
- About 5% of the original image (a small vertical strip on the left and
right) is cropped out

How are you achieving good DVD reproduction of your photo stories?

Thanks
Ravi

I don't usually make DVDs.... but how about skipping the Movie Maker
rendering....

tweak the PhotoStory profile as you have (if it's the PS3 profile you're
referring to) and then use TMPGEnc to convert the story to MPEG-2. I just
checked to be sure TMPGEnc can handle the story as an input file and it can.

I created a custom Photo Story 3 profile to use when saving for DVD burning,
checked a saved story in TMPGEnc to be sure it produced a good MPEG-2 file,
and added the info to the Photo Story 3 > Saving page of my site...
including a downloadable copy of the profile.

The only thing I might have done differently in the profile settings than
yours was to make keyframes every 3 seconds... don't know if that really
changes it any...

Thanks PapaJohn. I will give that profile a try.

PapaJohn,

Would I be correct in suggesting that the profile you did is for NTSC? If
so, then would it be stretching the friendship to also create one for PAL.

Thanks

I"m not sure what you mean by template.... I use TMPGEnc Plus 2.5. When I
opened it I use the wizard, selecting DVD-NTSC, then select the story as the
input file... and go thru the pages of the wizard to make the MPEG-2 files
from it.
