Creating Folders from Stacks

E

Escribirs

I have about two thousand individual song files in my music library, which I
would like to make folders from. I can stack those songs based on album
name, but I would like to know if there is any provision in Vista to convert
these stacks into "true" folders.

Thank you for your attention.

A little confused,,, what did you originally create these "stacks" with?
Media player or some other software? What software did you originally play
the music with? I-tunes or media player or rhapsody? Regardless of which the
songs usually are located in the music folder in a particular format...
More info if you can...
just trying to help

I used media monkey to download songs from my mp3 player, but when I
uploaded them on to my system, the folder structure was destroyed, and was
left with just a single folder with individual song files. I have all other
metadata available for those songs, like album name, artist, genre etc. So,
I can stack based on any of the metadata attributes in Windows Vista.

Unfortunately, my mp3 player is not working right now to reload the files
and recover the folder structure. My only option right now is to stack them
based on album names, and manually create folders out of each stack.

This is just one scenario where stacks to folders feature could be useful in
Vista. If it is possible, it can be applied to even other files using the
file type/tag/other misc. information.

Thanks,

i'm not familiar with Media Monkey... but,,, something tells me they will not
be compatible in that department with Media Player..
I would contact the folks at Media Monkey with your question, or maybe wait
for a better answer here..
something to be said for sticking with Media Player... backwards
compatibiltiy goes a long way with everyong except MAC people....

Escribirs,

Those stacks are actually search results (sometimes referred to as "virtual
folders") so their contents is dynamic. Depending on what you actually want
to accomplish there's a couple of ways I can think of:

1. Right-click a stack and select "Create Shortcut". This will place a
shortcut to your desktop. When you double click it you will open a stack
that will contain current search results according to criteria associated
with the stack.

2. Manually create a folder, open a stack and copy/move its contents to
folder you've just created. In contrast to stack shortcut, this is one-time
operation that will create normal static folder.

Alexander,

I ended up using the second method you suggested by creating manual folders,
and copying contents from stacks into corresponding folders.

Thank you,
