Creating Default Network Printer for All users

B

Bryan

In a lab environment, I would like to install a printer to be the default
printer for all users of the specified machines. The printer is an IP based
printer. I would like to be able to leverage AD and group policies to
install the printer if possible. All client machines are running XP Pro. Is
this possible? If so, how?
TIA

I have used this procedure with great success for printers shared from
machines. Will it work for IP-based printers? How does the PC know which
driver to use? I plan to use a generic HPLJ4 driver.
TIA

Hal,
I may have found a document which will help. If I can't figure it out, I'll
post a follow up. Thanks.

I've been using the link provided
"http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/NetPrinterAllUsers.htm" to add printers both
locally and remotely. We cannot however get the /y switch to work in order
to specify the default printer.

Also, does anyone know of any consequences of running the command multiple
times ?
Does it add multiple copeis of a printer, doesn't seem to but someone told
me in there experiance it had.

Anotherr strange thing that happend was when I removed a printer via the
Printdll command it was removed from the Print Server, not the local
computer. Guess you have to be carefull about what name you specify. Doh..
