Remote Manual Printer installation

Elwood

We have about 2000 XP Workstations, and about 350 network printers. Most of
our users have very restricted rights, so, they can not install their own
printers. We can install some of the printers via group policy for certain
OU's, but the exceptions are the problem. Printers are installed per user,
not per workstation, so , if we log on with someone who has rights, and
install the printer, it will not work for the others that use that
workstation. We need a way to remotely install printers to an individual
workstation without creating groups and a Group Policy for each printer. If
not possible, then we need a way to install them on a "per machine" basis.

Any ideas?????

Thanks for the link. We have looked at that and also a GUI version. We would
like to use these remotely, but our Security administrator is concerned about
putting File and Print Sharing on all of our workstations. (This is a
requirement to use this and similar tools remotely) Is there a whitepaper or
something similar that gives Microsoft's recommendations of how bad this is?
Some people think it's a big risk while others point out that it's installed
Bruce does.
