Creating a light flash effect between two scenes

Does anybody know how I can create a flash effect between two scenes? They
use this effect a lot in trailers, when one scene flashes to the next. Is it
possible to do this with movie maker?

Apply "Fade out to White" to the first clip and "Fadein from White" to the
second clip.

Easy. Just get a white screen by saying a pic on paint or filming a white
screen etc, then, insert it between two clips, and cut it down to a flash.
