Creating a baby book in Word

G

Guest

Has anyone ever created a baby book using Word? I have Word 2003 and am
trying but I cannot find a template that comes close to the layout I need.
I'm finding it extremely difficult, especially trying to draw a family tree!
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Family trees are best done with programs specifically for that purpose. If I
were going to make a baby book (not that I really know what all goes into
one), I would probably use Publisher because I'd be inserting lots of
photos, some cutesy graphics, and it would be a lot more freeform that what
*I* can get Word to do for me. (Suzanne can make Word do darned near
anything but I'm not that talented.)

I'm with JoAnn on this one: you need family tree software to make family
trees, and Publisher will probably be easier than Word if you're creating a
baby book to be printed. If you're planning to circulate it as a file, then
Word will be more portable unless you have a way to create PDFs, in which
case I'd still use Publisher.

But I'll bet you could do a great job with a task like that in Word. :)

I'd probably find it generally easier (albeit frustrating in specific
regards) in Word because I'm more comfortable with Word than Publisher, but
I accept that Publisher is the better application for the job. The baby
books I have (Baby's First Seven Years) are very much page-based, which
makes page layout software much more appropriate than word processing
software. OTOH, they do have a TOC (which can be generated manually, of
course, since the pagination doesn't change).

But if the baby book were expandable (so that you could add extra pages for
more pictures or anecdotes, for example), then Word might make it a little
smoother.
