Crashes in Paint Pro 8

John

I am still having system crashes, usually in Paint Pro 8
NOT all the time in Paint Pro.
Is this a problem with other users of Paint Pro?
It crashed 3 times yesterday with 3 different STOP CODES:
0X00000050 then STOP CODE 0X0000007F then STOP CODE
0X0000008E.

I read the knowledge base articles on two of these STOP
Codes. One mention bad RAM another mentioned running
PSTAT.EXE which would help identify the driver behind one
of the STOP CODEs. I don't have this PSTAT in my XP. I
searched MS knwoledge base and rec'd no answer. If this
would be helpful, where can I download it?

Thank you for your time on this.

Not having a problem with PSP8 here. Does the error happen any old time you
are working in PSP or after performing specific steps or using a particular
tool? If there is a discernible pattern, I would be willing to try and
duplicate it here.

Also, have you sent an email off to Jasc tech support yet? They are usually
very helpful in resolving problems with their software.

It usually happens when I am working on a photo and have
been making alot of changes to it, alot of commands, like
using the spray, paint can, undoing commands, doing them
again.. I thought at one time that I was using up all my
ram.. or using up all my cpu (if possible?) then bam it
crashes.. I will emailed JASC on this too. I also have
Adobe Elements installed if that means something. Its
getting pretty frustrating. Thanks for your help. I
needed someone to hear me.>-----Original Message-----

John, I have not had any luck in reproducing this:
My PSP8 is up to date: version 8.10. Undo is set to 500MB in Preferences.

System: AMD Tbird 1.1, 768 MB of RAM. Default Virtual Memory setting: Let
Windows Manage.

Used a 1280x960 color photo (2.5MB PSP image). Built it up to five layers.
Made changes to all layers using all of the tools that you mentioned on
every layer. Liberal use of the Undo/Redo buttons as I went along. With my
Undo size limits, this was at least ten operations in both directions. I
repeated the above steps with a couple 14MB scanned color photos, same
results.

All that this exercise has proven is that PSP8 is capable of doing some
heavy work in XP. At the very least, it tells you that PSP does not have a
fatal flaw that is capable of causing the same errors on two different
systems running XP.

If there is a known incompatibility with display drivers, specific hardware
or perhaps a conflict with other programs that you have installed, those
stop error codes will be of interest to the Jasc technical support folks. I
hope that your experience with them is as good as mine have been in the
past.

Sharon thank you very much. I will contact JASC and see
what happens. You were very helpful. John

I used PSP8 Beta, which was a little buggy, had no crashes. You do need a
little more RAM, especially if you're running any other apps. Graphic
programs tend to need more memory. I'm running XP Home with 1g Intel Celeron
and 512 DDRAM. Kind of wish I'd went with a little more CPU & Ram, as I
wasn't into the graphics that much at the time.
