Crash during contact import - Outlook 2007

Guest

I've been trying to import some contacts into Outlook 2007 and been having
the program crash on me when I do. I've tried tab delimited, comma delimited
and even a named range in Excel all with the same results.
I point it at the import file, point it to a contact folder (not the primary
contact folder BTW) and then map custom fields.

This works fine in Outlook 2003.

When I press import, I get this error message:

Seems to me you should have posted the format in which these Contacts
currently exist. The rest of this is meaningless without knowing that.

Have you tried running Office Diagnostics to correct any potential
configuration errors (or simply re-installing Office altogether)? Given that
your data file works in '2003 along with the type of error you are getting
(it is the identical file in both cases - correct?), seems very likely
something is wrong with your installation. Also assuming you have different
files when you say you've tried "Tab delim, comma delim, Excel" etc
(wouldn't make any sense otherwise).

Alrighty. The simple test case data that I'm using contains a total of 1
header row and 1 contact worth of data. Here is the entire .csv file I'm
using to perform the test with.
---------------------------------------------
First Name,Last Name,Company,Job Title,Business Phone
John,Doe,Galagavision,IT Slave,111-222-3333

I'll attempt a reinstall as asked for in the other post and get back to you

I don't understand your question. If these Contacts don't already exist in a
file, why would you be importing at all?

Umm, wow. Ok, I'm trying to help one of my users import his contact data
that came from another contact management solution into Microsoft Outlook.

Here's what we are doing, even though you really don't need to understand
this part of the process to try and figure out my crash.

1) export data from SalesForce into a .csv file with proper header names
2) import that data from .csv into Outlook.

As I import the contacts into Outlook, I crash. So, with my low level
technical abilities I thought it would be prudent to see if it was the DATA
itself that was causing the crash.
I created the 2 line import file which I posted previously to test with.
It crashed as well.

Seeing as how I'm not really getting any help here, I just went back to a
virutal machine that has 2003 on it and ran the import there. Worked just
fine and I was able to give the user a .pst with his import data in it.

Thanks for nutin!

Later.

Thanks Karl for the idea. I tried a repair and it found nothing wrong with
my installation. Just for grins later today I'm going to install 2007 on a
fresh virtual machine just to see if it has problems before going through the
whole uninstall and reinstall on my machine since I'm not experiencing any
other problem with Office atm. I was able to get the import done on a
virtual with Office 2003 on it and get the user up and running, so I'm not
gonna spend too much more time on this one.

Thanks for the assistance.

You must expect us to be mind readers. To troubleshoot a problem like this,
one must first figure out if the problem is with the file being imported or
with the Import Wizard. You left out any of the details that would get us
past the first possibility. That was the reason for my questions. Now that
you've filled in those blanks, you appear to have a corrupt installation.
I've seen no similar reports with other installations of Outlook 2007, so
let us know if you can reproduce the problem with another installation,
because the Office Maintenance Wizard should have taken care of this.
