My nephew(3) just discovered the world of computers-mine to be exact. He kept
switching it on/off and finally it crashed and refused to boot.I had to
format and reinstall and everything was fine until I installed the modem and
more problems. On rboot it gave me a message saying the systems registery
data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy and this was
successful. However I keep getting the blu screen of death and it does not
stay on screen long enough to see what the message is.I removed the modem
but no good.If I try to reinstall it keeps telling me that
certain files did not load.Any ideas pls?

The newer drive are much more durable but switching it on and off
on and off could have damaged the heads or platters or both. If you can get
the thing to boot I would suggest doing a diagnostic test on the hard
drive. If not some of the programs will run from a floppy. Check the
HD manufacturer's site from another computer. usually they have a diag
program avail be to test their drives. Good luck.

I should have added, if you do get it to boot backup any data you want to
keep immediately.
