CPU at 100%

Can someone help me figure out why my CPU is running at 100%. I have a new
Motherboard, RAM, Video card and HDs. I have switched them out and I can't
figure out what to do next. I am running an Nforce3-A MB, with PC3200 400
DDR, with a Radeon 7200 VC, using a Maxtor 300 gb SATA drive. MSOFT XP Pro.
Any advice would be appreciated.

G'Day JCW,

You need first to determine which Process is hogging the CPU:
Run Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL)
Select the "Processes" tab
With the mouse, point to the column heading "CPU" and click it to
sort (ascending), pause, and then click once more to sort descending.
The process at the top of the list is the one hogging the CPU.

Pat, Thanks for the info. The process is "spoolsv.exe" so what do I do now
and why is it hogging 99% CPU? Sincerely,

JCW

The following is from a Google search:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=spoolsv.exe+cpu+100%
Just one of a number of hits......seems you are not alone with the
spoolsv.exe problem. If this doesn't remedy your situation, there are a lot
of references at the above search site. Also, I would highly recommend
getting Process Explorer, free, from www.sysinternals.com . This is a LOT
better than Task Manager in that it will tell you *every* process that is
running on your machine and the % of cpu it is using on a real time basis.
Amongst its' many features, it allows you to kill processes.

spoolsv.exe hogging 99% of cpu - the fix
I came into lab to find the printer printing strange ASCII characters, one
line per page, and a basically inoperably slow PC. Checking Task Manager, I
found the culprit - one spoolsv.exe at 99% cpu which I killed. About 30
seconds later, the cpu was once again clogged by a revived app. Here's the
fix. First, get some breathing room - go to Control Panel, Administrative
Tools, Services and stop the Print Spooler. Turn off the printer. Now go to
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS and delete the files there. I found
'00020.SHD' and '00020.SPL'. Now turn your printer back on and restart the
service. Check task manager, spoolsv.exe should be at 00%. Whew!

Heirloom, old and hope it works for you

Heirloom and others,
Thanks for the info. It has worked great so far and my computer is FAST
again. Thanks
