Couldn't update; currently locked by user Error

Hi everyone,
I have a database that i designed for a department that has approx 8 users.
It is setup on a shared drive with FE and BE. All users have read and write
access to folders. Each user has a seperate copy on their desktop that they
access. My users from time to time receive the message, "Couldn't update;
currently locked by user" when they try to save a record. Here is the
setting i am using:
Access 2003
Default open mode Shared
Default record locking Edited Record
OLE/DDE timeout 30
Refresh interval 60
number of update retries 2
ODBC refresh interval 1500
Update retry interval 250

I have not found anywhere with a clear cut solution to this problem other
than having all users logout. I have done this and when the problem does
occur this does not resolve the issue. I have heard suggestions of changing
the Refresh Interval from 60 to 2 sec? Will that help? Also i have heard to
have individual copies repaired and compacted? Will that work? Any feedback
is appreciated.

Having users uncheck the option to repair and compact on close migth be an
issue in this case. Let them uncheck this feature and see if the problem
decreases...

Maurice,
Thank you for your reply but this box is not checked off. When i was
referring to compacting i was asking if maybe my users should try doing that
one time. The setting you are referring to already is setup that way.

Does anyone else have anything else they can think of for me to try. The
database is fine today but i would like to change the setting if possible to
avoid any future instances of this issue.
