System locked by user

In my Acc97 database, throughout the course of the day some users are getting
the message that the database (system) is locked by a user and it gives the
username. I have set the database options to
Default record locking to - edited records
Default open mode to - shared
enable dde refresh
Ole/DDe time out - 30
number of update retries - 2
odbc refresh interval - 10
Refresh interval - 2
Update retru interval - 2

There is one user who gets the message "Your account is disabled or has
expired. Contact your system system adminstrator" The user is a member of
the workgroup and the user's computer is joined to the workgroup.

Any more suggestions.

is your application split into a frontend/backend set up?

Yes, the database is split into a frontend and backend. Both ends are
located on a server and the users have shortcuts to the front end on their
desktops.

Hi,
each user should have a copy of the frontend on their local drive which link
back to the ONE backend on the server.
