Could use some help on WinXP Upgrade

In the process of (finally) updating my family's five systems to XP
(Pro, SP2) I've run into some anomalies, and could use some direction.
These problems are not (necessarily)on the same box.

Missing "Network Neighborhood" - TweakuiXP doesn't show it as a desktop
option either.

Missing the drop-down options on the Task Bar, Properties, Customize,
Customize Notification "Hide Icons" area.

Relates to the above, but on another system - "Hiding Icons" doesn't
stick after a re-boot.

After an XP upgrade to a Win98 system, MS-Word will not run. (The rest
of MSOffice 2000 runs fine.) Error message referred me to a M-Soft
update area for Office and suggested that this would solve the problem.
Nope. Re-installing Office didn't help either.

Any clue toward any problem area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your input.

You'll need to post questions relating to one specific computer at a
time. In order to properly troubleshoot a system, we have to know about
the hardware, the install (upgrade or clean), network details, etc.
Unless all 5 machines are exactly the same, answers may be different
for each of them. So let's take it one box at a time. Make sure you
include full details about what you've already done to troubleshoot,
too.

For the MS-Word problem you might want to post that question to a Word
specific newsgroup. Here is a list of all MS newsgroups:

For the Task Bar / Notification Area proglem see Kelly's Taskbar Repair

Malke,
Fair enough. I'll put the others in their own note. How 'bout we start
with with the missing drop-down options on the Task Bar, Properties,
Customize, Customize Notification "Hide Icons" area?

WinXP, Sp2 - was an upgrate from Win98. I've done nothing yet to fix
this, but I "DID" back out XP in favor of Win98 once, and then
re-installed it later.

Thanks.
