could the new windows update be preventing me from playing online games?

ok here is my problem . Ever since i ran windows update(
the onethat protects us from the blaster worm), i have
been unable to play online games such as midtown madness
2, jediknight2, medal of honor, and etc. now i am still
able to go into a server and play for a little while, but
after around 5 minutes or so into the game, it crashes;
with midtown madness 2, a blue screen comes up telling me
that my computer must shut down , and with jediknight and
medal of honor, it simply crashes to the desktop. I know
that the problem is not the fault of my computer or the
games that I am playing because I am able to play those
games perfectly in the singleplayer modes( when i am not
playing online)without having it crash. my guess is that
the problem is caused by the extra security put forth by
the blaster worm update, so whenver i play a game online,
it blocks access between me and the game server. this is
just a guess and i am not sure if it is true. has anyone
else also experienced such a problem? if so, please let
me know what I must do to fix it. thanks

If you have a firewall, perhaps you should check its settings.

Henry, I was just at windowsupdate, and there was an XP fix (not a
critical update) which deals with online games crashing shortly after
they begin. You might want to see if the description matches your
problem.
