Corrupt Icons

The icon for .BMP .GIF, .JPG, .TIF etc. are all displaying the Windows
'default document' icon.
When I select a new icon or associate a graphics program with
these types of files there is no change, the old 'default document'
icon remains.
I have deleted the icon cache file "ShelliconCache" and rebooted, but no
change.
Anybody know? Thanks,

try to change the color resolution of your screen (e.g. 256 colors)and
press apply.
Then change the color resolution again to your preferred value (e.g.
16.8 millions).
